Whether fans want to admit that the New York Yankees , Boston Red Sox , Baltimore Orioles , and the Blue Jays themselves are very good teams is one thing, but the AL East is absolutely loaded. We're still very early in the season, but as things currently stand, it's evident that the Yankees have been the best team in the division. New York's pitching staff has been excellent, and the bats have gotten going.
Jeff Passan of ESPN believes that, for that reason, and some of the injuries the Yankees are dealing with, make them the best team in the American League East when healthy. “The Yankees… look like the team to beat in the American League East right now. And that’s no disrespect intended to the Blue Jays… the Yankees pitching right now, they’re doing this without Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon.
” For Passan, it’s not just that the Yankees are winning games, but that they’re doing it without two of their most important arms in Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon. In the Blue Jays' fairness, they've also dealt with injuries over the past few years and have some right now. Toronto won the American League a season ago, and out of respect for what it was able to do, it isn't the craziest thing to suggest that it can win the American League East and the American League, more importantly, come October.
