The Michigan Wolverines ended a 26-year streak of men’s basketball futility for the Big Ten on Monday, April 6. With its 69-63 victory over the UConn Huskies, Michigan claimed the Big Ten’s first men’s hoops crown since the Michigan State Spartans won the 1999-2000 title. The win gave the Big Ten a rare sweep of NCAA football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball titles.
The Indiana Hoosiers won in football, and the UCLA Bruins took home the women’s hoops crown, the conference’s first since Purdue in 1999. ” the conference posted on X . “Go B1G or go home,” the post’s graphic proclaimed. The only other conference to accomplish the feat is the SEC.
In the 2006-07 school year, the Florida Gators won the BCS National Championship and the NCAA men’s basketball title, while the Tennessee Lady Vols took the women’s basketball crown. Until now, the SEC was widely considered the top conference in college sports. The 2025-26 school year is the first since 2018-19 in which no SEC team won a national crown in the big three sports.
