Dolphins star notably absent from start of their offseason program

The Miami Dolphins are working on a contract extension with one of their stars, but in the meantime, he's not at the start of their offseason program.

The Miami Dolphins, with their new head coach, are starting their offseason program on Tuesday, weeks before the 2026 NFL draft. While the majority of Miami's roster is in the building, Jeff Hafley announced during his media availability that running back De'Von Achane isn't present for the start of Phase 1. The Dolphins and their star running back have had contract negotiations this offseason, as Achane is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

With that, Hafley understands that this is normal and doesn't seem too concerned. "Those are talks for another time between Achane and Sully... that's part of the business, it's part of what every team goes through.

They'll work it out," he said. Achane has totaled 4,334 offensive yards and 35 touchdowns in his first three seasons in the NFL since Miami took him in the third round in 2023 out of Texas A&M. The 24-year-old earned Pro Bowl honors last season for the first time.

With the complete roster teardown this offseason, extending Achane should be at the very top of the team's list of priorities going forward. If they can get everything done before the draft at the end of the month, that would be ideal.
