Liam Coen sees more growth ahead for Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen believes Trevor Lawrence still has room to improve, even after his strong 2025 season.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence had a breakout season in 2025. The quarterback lauded in college as a generational talent had a tough time his first few years in Jacksonville, operating under a rotating door of head coaches and new schemes to learn, not to mention a fair share of injuries. There began to be musings from around the league that Lawrence would end up being a bust.

Yet in 2025, Liam Coen was hired, and under Coen, Lawrence saw immediate improvement. Not only did Lawrence perform well, he was a league MVP nominee , as well as Comeback Player of the Year . And now, looking ahead to the 2026 season, Coen has a lot of optimism for Lawrence's future.

"Going into the process, from watching tape, I was like, 'Alright, this dude is tough. I do think he's tough. ' He takes shots, gets up, doesn't say a word, has played hurt, has missed time," Coen said on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

"[He previously had] four new systems, multiple different head coach situations, OCs [offensive coordinators], whatever it is. You go throughout the season, he doesn't miss a single practice, doesn't miss a single throw in practice, played the whole season. Obviously, an MVP finalist, Comeback Player of the Year finalist, did some great things.
