Boston Red Sox slugger Willson Contreras is upset with the Milwaukee Brewers , a fairly common refrain over the catcher/first baseman's tenure in the National League Central. The older brother of Brewers catcher William Contreras, Willson took exception when he was grazed by a Brandon Woodruff pitch during the third inning of Milwaukee's 8-6 win Monday, April 6 at Fenway Park. That's the 24th time he's been struck by a Brewers pitch in his career, making him the most-struck batsman ever against the Brewers โ Don Baylor is second with 19.
Woodruff alone is responsible for six of those. Contreras has also played in 121 games against the Brewers, the fourth-most of any active player. The Brewers insist they arenโt trying to hit Contreras.
After all, he ranks second among active players in hit-by-pitches and often leans over the plate. But, he averages one plunking in 19. 5 plate appearances against the Brewers, compared to one every 36 against the rest of baseball.
