Clemson gets back in the win column as the Tigers fight to take down Santa Clara.

Clemson baseball needed a late spark on Monday night, and Jason Fultz delivered it in a big way. Fultz crushed his first career home run in the eighth inning, a three-run shot that flipped the game and pushed the Tigers to a 6-4 win over Santa Clara at Stephen Schott Stadium. The win wrapped up Clemson’s west coast trip at 3-1 and marked their fourth victory in the last six games.

Fultz finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs, while Tyler Lichtenberger added two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Clemson grabbed an early lead when Jacob Jarrell brought home Nate Savoie with a two-out single in the first, then added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Jackson Moore. Santa Clara answered in the sixth, stringing together timely hits and taking advantage of control issues out of the bullpen to move in front 3-2.

The Tigers didn’t respond until the eighth. After Luke Gaffney was hit by a pitch and Lichtenberger singled, Fultz stepped up with two outs and drove a ball deep to left, giving Clemson the lead for good. Moore followed with a single, later scoring on a hit from Bryce Clavon to add insurance.

The Broncos picked up a run in the bottom half of the inning, but Clemson’s bullpen held firm late. Joe Allen earned the win with scoreless relief, and Justin LeGuernic closed it out over the final two innings to secure his third save.
