The San Francisco 49ers were linked to a blockbuster deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in March, and it appears the two NFC franchises are once again surrounded by trade chatter in April.
According to a recent trade rumor , the Chiefs are interested in acquiring the 49ers’ 37-year-old star offensive tackle. “I continue to hear the Chiefs have a major thing for 49ers left tackle Trent Williams and are ready to pounce if/when he is available in trade. The 49ers remain in a contract impasse with Williams about reworking that date,” NFL insider Jason La Canfora told Casino Guru’s Holly Sandrove last Thursday.
Williams’ contributions played an integral role in the 49ers’ successful, yet injury-riddled 2025-26 campaign. The 12-time Pro Bowler finished the year with a 79. 9 pass block grade, 92.
8 run block grade, and an overall PFF (Pro Football Focus) grade of 91. 5, which impressively ranked third among offensive tackles. Williams’ ability to serve as a bodyguard enables him to keep Brock Purdy upright more often than not and create clear running lanes for Christian McCaffrey.
