Former Clemson football star Dexter Lawrence wants out of Big Blue. News broke yesterday that Lawrence has requested a trade from the New York Giants, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a move that quickly grabbed the attention of both NFL fans and the Clemson community that watched him become a star. As someone who has followed the New York Giants for years and now walks across Clemson’s campus every day, seeing Dexter Lawrence request a trade hits me in a way that is hard to accept.
On the one hand, I can relate to the business side because I'm a Giants fan. Contract disputes do occur, and reports state that during the past few seasons, there hasn't been much progress toward a deal that appropriately values Lawrence. However, the Clemson side of me has a different perspective.

He recorded 162 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and 43 quarterback pressures in 40 games and 36 starts. In addition to being productive, he was disruptive in a way that altered the way opposing offenses operated.
He established himself as one of the most decorated defensive linemen in Clemson history by winning three All-ACC selections and first-team All-American honors by the end of his career. Since being drafted in the first round in 2019, Lawrence has developed into one of the league’s most reliable interior defenders. His career numbers include over 340 tackles and 30.
