LSU women's basketball poaches assistant coach from ACC program
LSU women's basketball filled a key assistant coaching position, poaching a coach from an ACC program.
LSU women's basketball made an addition to its staff. Fitzroy Anthony joined the team as an assistant coach, per an announcement from the team on Monday. He comes to Baton Rouge after 11 seasons at Miami.
Head coach Kim Mulkey made the move to hire Anthony after losing two assistant coaches. Gary Redus left to take the head coach role at Rutgers and took fellow former assistant Daphne Mitchell with him to Piscataway. Miami made six NCAA Tournament appearances and recorded six 20-plus women's seasons over Anthony's tenure.
He worked with 10 All-ACC players and two future WNBA Draft picks. In 2021-22, Anthony assumed the role of recruiting coordinator and signed two top-20 players in his first class. He holds strong ties to the South Florida area dating back to his three seasons as an assistant at Florida Atlanta, two seasons at Coral Springs Charter School and several rotations on the AAU circuit.
