All rights reserved An elite hitting prospect almost always works out. They are the coin of the realm….. the Bryce Harpers, the Mike Trouts, the Alex Rodriguezes, the Josh Hamiltons, etc..

But “almost” is the operative word there. Ruben Rivera was surely going to hit. Many evaluators (not me) thought he was better than Derek Jeter when they were racing through the Yankees’ system together.

Remember the Mariners’ Marc Newfield from back in the day? He was certainly going to hit. Heck, who was a surer thing than the Orioles’ Jackson Holliday?
