Saturday roundup: Austin wins county crown once again

Apr. 7—The Austin Black Bears put on a dominating performance Saturday night to claim their fifth consecutive Morgan County softball championship. In a rematch of last year's championship game, Austin defeated Brewer 15-3 to win the title.

After scoring five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead, the Black Bears scored 10 runs in the final two innings to run away with the win. The Black Bears finished 5-0 on Saturday, running the gauntlet to win the championship. Austin defeated Brewer twice, winning 9-8 in the first game to force a winner-take-all game in the finals.

Liann Sanchez had a big game in the county championship, doubling twice and driving in four runs. Arden Breedlove added three hits and two RBIs, Kyleigh Gable had three hits and Marissa Adams had a hit and two RBIs. Grace Lamb got the win in the circle, allowing four hits and three hits in seven innings while also adding two hits at the plate.

Cadence Lott and LC Hamilton led Brewer with a hit and an RBI each. — Austin 9, Brewer 8: Evelyn Lamb, an eighth grader, hit a walk-off double to give Austin the win. Marissa Adams led Austin with two hits and three RBIs, while Arden Breedlove added three hits.
