She reportedly felt jealous of Moriah's friendship and past romantic involvement with fellow cyclist Colin Strickland , whom she had dated on and off for 3 years. Though the yoga teacher initially evaded arrest by fleeing to Costa Rica and undergoing around $6,000 in plastic surgery to alter her appearance, she was captured a month later.

In November 2023, Armstrong was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to 90 years in prison. “If you allowed yourself to actually know her, you never ever would have wanted to hurt her,” Karen said to Armstrong at her sentencing hearing, per KVUE .
