Heidenheim captain may leave to stay in the Bundesliga With just six games remaining this season, 1. FC Heidenheim sit at the bottom of the Bundesliga table, nine points behind St. Pauli in the relegation play-off spot, and face a serious threat of dropping out of Germany’s top flight.

If the club is relegated, captain Patrick Mainka could be on the move to stay in the Bundesliga, according to Sky Germany. The report states that other Bundesliga clubs have previously enquired about the 31-year-old centre-back. “I’ve worked for so long to be able to play in the Bundesliga, and that’s why it’s an absolute dream that I want to continue living and one I give my all for every single day,” Mainka said in a recent interview with Sky.

Mainka joined Heidenheim from Borussia Dortmund’s reserves in 2018.
