Commanders to host Maryland OT for a pre-draft workout

The Commanders could use the 2026 NFL Draft to find some depth at offensive tackle behind Laremy Tunsil and Josh Conerly.

The Washington Commanders appear to be set at offensive tackle for the foreseeable future. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil just signed a two-year extension and is under contract for the next three seasons. Right tackle Josh Conerly Jr.

is entering his second NFL season in 2026. However, the Commanders could use some depth at tackle, especially if third-year OL Brandon Coleman starts at left guard in 2026. Coleman served as Washington's swing tackle last season, doing an excellent job of filling in for Tunsil.

One of the Commanders' reserve tackles, George Fant, is a free agent and unlikely to return. Washington did re-sign Trent Scott and brought back Foster Sarell for depth. It would make sense for GM Adam Peters to use the 2026 NFL Draft to build some young depth.

So, it would make sense that an offensive tackle in Washington's backyard will be in Ashburn for a workout this week. Maryland offensive tackle Alan Herron will visit this week, according to Mike Jones of The Athletic. Commanders will be hosting draft prospects Alan Herron (OT, Maryland) for a workout this week, according to a source.
