First placed Chivas struggled but were able to bounce back from going down by two goals at halftime to get the tie.

Pumas’ struggles in Guadalajara continued although both teams gave a great performance and overall the tie was a fair result. Chivas will now travel north to face off against Tigres while Pumas returns home to face off against disappointing Mazatlan. The 1st half started with Pumas coming out without Adalberto Carrasquilla, who was on the bench after his long trip during the FIFA break to South Africa.

Chivas had the return to Luis Romo to the starting 11 after his injury. A cross into the area would be headed by Armando Gonzalez but easily saved by Pumas’ goalkeeper, Keylor Navas. A harsh foul by Rodrigo Lopez on Ruben Gonzalez earned him a Yellow card although replays showed that it should have been a red card but the referee didn’t go to VAR and the call stood.

After a good run, Roberto Alvarado got off a left footed shot from outside the area that went just wide. A cross into the area would find Juninho but his right footed volley shot went well wide. Off a counter, Juninho made a great play to get off a pass to Uriel Antuna, who got off a wonderful right footed shot past Chivas’ goalkeeper, Raul Rangel, to score and give Pumas the surprising 1-0 lead.
