Draft chatter is heating up around a possible Bills linebacker fit
Opinions on where Texas Tech LB Jacob Rodriguez should be picked are varied, but he'd fit the Bills because the ball production is unmistakable.
When Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez was asked at the NFL scouting combine who he models his playing style after, his answer perked up the ears of Buffalo Bills fans. “The two in Buffalo,” Rodriguez said. “I think Terrell Bernard … it’s easy to watch him.
And then Matt Milano. I think they do things really well. Being a similar size that I am, it makes it easy to watch them and play football the way they do and play it the right way.
” Interestingly, even before Rodriguez said that, NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah was asked about linebackers who would be a good fit in Buffalo and he said, “Let’s say you’re looking for a plus defender who can play linebacker, Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech. Not the biggest guy, very similar to Matt Milano, better athlete than people even think he is. I think he is right in line.
” Is there a little karma in the works here for a Rodriguez to Buffalo scenario at some point during the first two nights of the draft? It would be somewhat ironic if the Bills decide to pick Rodriguez because of course the player he would be replacing is Milano (currently an unsigned free agent), and he’d be lining up next to Bernard in the middle of Jim Leonhard’s 3-4-based defense. There is a wide disparity of viewpoints in the draft analyst community regarding Rodriguez and in his case, it rings true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
