University of Alaska-Anchorage hockey faces a coaching change following Matt Shasby's resignation
A new leader will guide the University of Alaska-Anchorage Men's Hockey Program this fall after Head Coach Matt Shasby's sudden resignation this evening. Shasby steps down as head coach | University of Alaska Anchorage University of Alaska Anchorage head hockey coach Matt Shasby announced today that he is stepping away as head coach, effective immediately. Shasby had been the Head Coach for the Seawolves since their revival in the 2021-22 Season and earned a 34-86-9 record.
Anchorage achieved historic wins under his leadership including a road victory against No. 6 Denver on Oct. 31, 2025.
Additionally, a modification on the athletics website shows Assistant Coach Aaron McPheters as the Acting Head Coach. Chris Kamal and Evan Trupp remain Assistant Coaches Per the release, the resignation and search for a new Head Coach will begin immediately.
