No. 10 UCLA softball completes Indiana series sweep with a shutout
No. 10 UCLA softball shutout Indiana 4-0 in their series finale at Easton Stadium on Sunday.
After dropping a series to Nebraska last weekend, the No. 10 UCLA softball team completed the series sweep against Indiana with a 4-0 win at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday. The Bruins pitching staff was in full control of the finale following their 7-2 beatdown of the Hoosiers in game two.
Senior right-handed pitcher Taylor Tinsley helmed the unit from the mound with precise throwing leading to only three hits and two strikeouts against the 24 batters she faced over the seven inning affair. Defensive showdown The Big Ten opponents found themselves in a defensive showdown in the first two innings as both teams struggled to get runners on base. The Hoosiers first and second were 1-2-3 innings as Tinsley's pitching made life difficult on Indiana's batters.
The Bruins fared a bit better with a hit in each inning, but neither were close to getting UCLA on the board. So close, yet so far Indiana got their first runner on base off of a walk in the top of the third, but Tinsley quickly ended the Hoosiers turn at bat. Meanwhile, UCLA got the bases loaded of a double, an error and a walk, but the Bruins failed to get a runner home as they entered the fourth inning scoreless.
Scoreless no longer In the top of the fourth, Tinsley allowed her first hit of the game, but a double play would keep Indiana from making anything of the base knock. Redshirt junior infielder Ramsey Suarez batted a double and got the Bruins first runner of the game home in the bottom of the inning. UCLA continued to pile up points with two more runs coming off of a fielding error by Indiana late in the inning.
