The offseason is underway as Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats enter what likely will go down as the most important offseason of his tenure. After a disappointing season finishing 22-14, the Big Blue Nation has higher expectations than what has been shown on the court to this point in Pope’s first two seasons. Add in the price tag for last season’s roster, and it was a complete failure to not even make the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Now, add that to the staff needing to be filled out with two new assistant coaches, and the questions being asked about roster building are very valid. There is a lot riding on those two hires, as well as trusting new Director of Roster Management Keegan Brown to crush it this offseason. Kentucky does have the ability to change the perception quickly.

How so? Landing commitments from Tyran Stokes or Dink Pate (or both) would be a huge start. It still takes stars to win games in college basketball and make deep runs in March.

Both of these players fit that bill. The other key factor is retention. This seems to be the point of the offseason that could go a lot of different ways.
