Golfer Collin Morikawa is taking his Masters preparation 'day by day' after withdrawing from The Players Championship with back spasms.

AUGUSTA, Ga. โ€“ Collin Morikawa's status for the Masters remains uncertain as he lists himself in the terms of sports injury report as "day-by-day. " As the late Los Angeles Dodgers announcer Vin Scully once said, โ€œBut then again, arenโ€™t we all?

โ€ Morikawa has been sidelined since withdrawing one hole into the first round of the Players Championship on March 12, citing back spasms. He had been hitting balls for the past week and signed up to play at last weekโ€™s Valero Texas Open but pulled out on Tuesday after deciding it was premature. He said he continued to hit balls and play in the lead up to the Masters, which begins Thursday.

โ€œThe honest truth is I'm taking it day by day. It's not exactly where I want to be, and it's unfortunate, but that's just the body, and I can't push it,โ€ he said. โ€œIt's been a little bit of a mental battle, I think, just trying to trust with where it's at.

The back actually feels fine. It's just other parts of the body not cooperating a little bit how I want. โ€ Morikawa has undergone MRIs and he has dealt with back issues in the past, including withdrawing from the 2023 Memorial before the final round when he was two shots off the lead.
