Florida basketball center Micah Handlogten to enter transfer portal
Florida center Micah Handlogten plans to enter the transfer portal, but is still seeking a medical hardship waiver.
Florida basketball’s Micah Handlogten has entered the transfer portal, which was first reported by On3's Joe Tipton. Handlogten is waiting for a medical hardship waiver to grant him an additional year of eligibility. This past season, the 7-foot-1 center averaged 4.
1 points and 5. 9 rebounds off the bench in 34 games. “I’m very optimistic about it,” Handlogten said of getting that additional year after the Gators’ senior day game.
“There’s so much uncertainty around it that I can’t really face that. ” Handlogten, who transferred to Florida after spending his freshman season at Marshall, suffered a compound fracture in his leg during the SEC championship game in 2024. Rather than take a medical redshirt, Handlogten opted to return during the Gators’ national championship run.
"I feel like he deserves the label as one of the most unselfish Gator athletes to ever play on this campus," Florida coach Todd Golden said of Handlogten earlier in the season. "To do what he did last year, to help us win a national championship, I think people around the program appreciate that about him. ” Handlogten becomes the second Gator to enter the portal after 7-foot-9 Olivier Rioux made that decision to leave last week.
