Young Rams assistant getting 'rave reviews' from others in NFL

Another Sean McVay assistant is getting some traction in the NFL coaching world.

Members of Sean McVay's staff are constantly getting praised by outside forces, and it's reflected in how many earn external interviews for promotions. This past year alone, three of the Los Angeles Rams ' most senior assistants interviewed for head coaching jobs , with offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur landing the Arizona Cardinals' top position . This trend will likely continue as long as McVay is leading the Rams.

As such, one of the lesser-known assistants is starting to gain some traction in the NFL world: Inside linebackers coach Greg Williams. According to The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue , Williams has been receiving "rave reviews from those who have had to practice against him daily or in joint training camp practices. " Williams began his coaching career at the collegiate level with stops at Arizona State, College of DuPage, Arkansas Tech, and Pittsburgh from 2003 to 2008, following his brief playing professional career.

Since entering the NFL coaching ranks, Williams has coached linebackers and defensive backs for the Los Angeles Chargers (2009–2015), Indianapolis Colts (2016–2017), Denver Broncos (2018), Arizona Cardinals (2019–2022), and Green Bay Packers (2023) before joining the Rams as inside linebackers coach in 2024. The Rams' team site also credits him with the development of 2024 undrafted free agent Omar Speights and 2025 free-agent signing Nate Landman. Both have turned into key starters in Chris Shula's defense.

Williams will likely be a name to watch next season if Shula, who interviewed with a few different teams during the offseason, leaves for a head coaching position after the 2026 season. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Young Rams assistant getting 'rave reviews' from others in NFL
