Former Duke starl Luke Kennard records first career triple-double

Yahoo Sports

Not known for his rebounding and passing ability, sharpshooter Luke Kennard posted his first NBA triple-double for the Lakers on Easter Sunday.

In an era of one-and-done collegiate athletes, former Duke alum Luke Kennard spent two seasons with the Blue Devils before being selected 12th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2017 NBA Draft. Since then, Kennard has put together a nice career as a sharpshooter, averaging a career 44. 3% from three-point range.

That number trails only Steve Kerr for the highest career percentage in NBA history. For the third season of his career this year, Kennard is leading the league in three-point percentage, converting on 48. 4% of attempts.

However, in Sunday's Easter matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, Kennard showcased more than just his shooting ability. The 29-year old entered the starting lineup with both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves sidelined and posted his first career triple-double. Kennard led the Lakers in minutes (41), putting up 15 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists.

Kennard's 16 boards also marked a career high. Although he wasn't as efficient with an increased volume, Kennard will have other opportunities in the future, especially with Reaves and Doncic sidelined for the remainder of the regular season.
