During pregame batting practice, a stray line drive off of the bat of former teammate Brady House struck Call in the chest. He declared he was alright afterwards, and went on to make his first start of the season.

After the game, he spoke with the media about the incident. “Not ideal,” Call said with a smile. “It’s all good.

He got the nod again in the final game of the series, going 2-for-3 with another double and two walks while scoring two runs.

Call is used to playing at Nationals Park, as he spent time with the NL East side from 2022-25. He played 265 games for the team during that time, hitting 19 homers and recording 91 RBIs. The Nationals traded Call to the Dodgers at the trade deadline last season in exchange for pitching prospects Sean Paul Liñan and Eriq Swan.
