Spanish River's Preston Sangely ran the nation's top 800-meter time at the Florida Pepsi Relays, leading local athletes.

Spanish River senior Preston Sangely is overtaking some of the nation's best runners with an astonishing final kick to his varsity track and field career. Sangely posted the No. 1 time in the United States this season to win the 800-meter run (1:49.

64) at the Florida Pepsi Relays in Gainesville on the campus of the University of Florida on Friday, April 3. The 800-meter run proved to be an exhibition of Palm Beach County distance talent. Sangely's top local rival, Cardinal Newman senior Joe Licata, took second with his own personal-best time (1:51.

66), which was the third-best in Florida this year. Casey Sangely, Preston's younger brother, took fourth, also with a personal-best time (1:52. 10).

Led by the Sangely brothers, the Spanish River 4x800-meter relay team went on to win the event. 36 event winners Palm Beach County track and field championships Spanish River and Cardinal Newman weren't the only local schools with top finishers. Park Vista junior Jeremiah Lysius won the boys high jump with a final mark of 2.
