Former Iowa State star Ashley Joens named Ankeny girls basketball coach
Former Iowa State star Ashley Joens accepted the head girls basketball coach job at Ankeny High School.
Ashley Joens was one of the best-ever Iowa high school girls basketball players and went on to become a star in college, solidifying herself as one of the top women to ever suit up at Iowa State. Joens will now be passing on her knowledge to the next group of up-and-coming players. On Monday, April 6, Ankeny High School announced that Joens has accepted the school's girls basketball coaching job.
The hiring, which would give the school one of the biggest names in the state's basketball history, is pending the ACSD board's approval. Joens is one of the most accomplished players to come out of Iowa. At Iowa City High School, she was a four-year letterwinner and finished her prep career with 2,178 points, good enough for 13th in state history.
We are excited to announce that pending ACSD Board Approval tonight, Ashley Joens has accepted the head coaching position of @Hawkettehoops and we can't wait to continue growing girls basketball at AHS! Welcome Ashley! @IGHSAU pic.
