Muñoz, a Rule 5 pick, allowed seven earned runs in three appearances with the Astros.

If Muñoz clears waivers, he must be offered back to his original team: the Cincinnati Reds. — Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) April 6, 2026 Munoz was a Rule 5 pick, the first made by the Astros in 8 years. The team liked his power breaking stuff, and a strong stretch in Spring Training where he ran through batters racking up strikeouts got him an extended look with the team early in the season.

However, when the lineups became more MLB caliber, the cracks started to show in the armor. Munoz gave up runs in his last two Grapefruit League appearances, and has looked very shaky once the MLB regular season began. His biggest issues have always been home runs and walks.

In his 3 appearances as a member of the Astros, he has allowed 3 HR and 6 BB in 4 innings. He allowed 7 earned runs, equating to a 15. 75 ERA.
