Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes in talks to decide Arne Slot's future Liverpool made big changes to their leadership structure back in 2024. Manager Jurgen Klopp departed and into his role as head coach came Arne Slot. The German’s powers were further split however with Michael Edwards coming back into the fold as FSG’s CEO of Football and Richard Hughes being hired as sporting director.

It’s fair to say the moves were an instant success with Liverpool carrying off the Premier League title at the end of the 2024/25 season. But this season the club have endured mixed fortunes - slipping out of contention for the Premier League title and being eliminated from both domestic cups in humiliating fashion. Their last shot at silverware is in the Champions League - where they face Paris Saint-Germain in a very taxing quarter-final matchup.

It has been reported that . Edwards and Hughes in dialogue over Slot Liverpool may end up winning the tournament this season - thereby guaranteeing their passage - or else do it via their league placing. With matches against Everton, Manchester United and Aston Villa to come it certainly looks like a daunting prospect.

Hughes and Edwards are expected to sit down and discuss the way forward at the end of the season - with a decision to be taken on Slot’s employment. However a report in TEAMtalk is now claiming that those talks are already underway - with the Fenway Sports Group ownership expressing their disapproval of how the season has turned out thus far. FSG are not happy “Ownership group Fenway Sports Group – with the football department led by Michael Edwards – have made clear their dissatisfaction with how the campaign has unfolded,” the report reads.
