Tiger Woods' absence won't delay PGA Tour's future plans

Despite Tiger Woods's absence from the Masters, the PGA Tour's future plans are expected to proceed on schedule.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tiger Woods is absent for the 90 th Masters , but his presence is felt everywhere. On Monday, Australian Adam Scott fielded several questions from the media under the famed oak tree outside the clubhouse and was asked how Tiger’s rollover car accident in Florida on March 27 would affect the business of the PGA Tour.

Woods, who was chairman of the Tour’s Future Competitions Committee, announced he was stepping away to focus on his mental health. Last month, Tour CEO Brian Rolapp gave an update on the FCC's progress, which is working to reshape the Tour’s schedule for as early as 2027 and beyond. Rolapp gave broad strokes of his vision and promised to have an update after the Tour’s next board meeting in June, the week of the Travelers Championship.

Will Woods’s absence delay that timeline? “I really don’t think so,” Scott said. “I think he’s fully aware of the timeline and if we can get there.

Tiger’s communication with Brian and Joe Gorder has been constant enough that it will all go in the right direction. ” The FCC consists of nine members: Gorder, the former Chairman and CEO of Valero and chairman of the PGA Tour policy and Tour Enterprises board. John Henry, principal of Fenway Sports Group; manager of Strategic Sports Group, the private equity investor in the Tour, and Tour Enterprises board member.
