Alabama continues rising in USA TODAY Baseball Coaches Poll
Alabama joins college baseball elites UCLA, Texas and others in this week's USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll top 10. See where the Crimson Tide rank.
The Alabama Crimson Tide have won three straight series in SEC baseball play, all against top 25 opponents, after taking two of three from the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman over the weekend. Alabama (25-8 overall, 8-4 conference) out-slugged the previously 12th-ranked Sooners in the series opener, 10-7, behind two home runs from Bryce Fowler and solo shots from Jason Torres and Justin Osterhouse. After falling 4-2 on Friday, the Crimson Tide won a tight 3-2 affair in Saturday's series finale.
All three Alabama runs came in the first inning off Oklahoma miscues -- a wild pitch, passed ball and an error in center field. The Tide rode pitchers Myles Upchurch, Ashton Crowther and Matthew Helberger for eight innings in Norman before Hagan Banks pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save this season. Alabama won despite tallying only five hits.
Oklahoma left nine men on base. Saturday's victory marked a 3-1 week overall for the Crimson Tide, who used a ninth-inning home run from Brady Neal to beat Jacksonville State, 4-3, on Tuesday. Since starting SEC play 0-3 after being sweep at Kentucky, the Crimson Tide have won 10 of their last 11 games, which includes series sweeps of then-No.
