Palmeiras go 5 points clear at the top of the Brasileirão Palmeiras are more firmly at the top than ever in Brazil’s Série A and now hold a five-point lead over the runners-up. The 2-1 win over Bahia this Sunday (5) at Arena Fonte Nova was their fifth straight victory in the competition. They now have 25 points, followed by São Paulo and Fluminense, both on 20, in second and third place respectively.

The 10th round began on Saturday (4) with three matches: at Morumbis, São Paulo thrashed Cruzeiro 4-1, with three goals from Ferreirinha and one from Calleri, while Christian scored Cruzeiro’s consolation goal. At São Januário, Vasco lost 2-1 to Botafogo after coming from behind. David scored for the home side, while Villalba and Matheus Martins found the net for the visitors.
