NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Pickups: Forwards, April 6: Kakko and Mikheyev Inexpensive Options for Your DFS Squad
Plus a pricier top line choice to pair with that duo
On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy hockey managers to stream, roster or utilize in standard leagues and/or DFS games. Players and goalies highlighted for streaming in standard leagues are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues. Jake Guentzel, LW/RW, TB @ BUF (99% rostered) - Draftkings $7,200 Guentzel signed a seven-year, $63 million contract with the Lightning in July of 2024.
That move has worked out well for both sides, as Guenztel posted 41 goals and 39 assists last season. Currently, Guentzel is riding a seven-game point streak during which he has notched five goals and seven assists. That run has upped Guenztel's 2025-26 totals to 36 and 48, respectively, in 76 contests, with that total matching his career-high from 2021-22 with Pittsburgh.
Kaapo Kakko, RW, SEA @ WPG (2% rostered) - DraftKings $3,300 Seattle's playoff hopes are on life support, trailing Nashville by six points with seven games remaining. Kakko is doing his best to keep the Kraken in the race, contributing four goals and eight assists over his last 10 outings, One issue with Kakko is that he doesn't shoot enough, as he has just 74 shots on goal in 58 contests and eight in his 10 appearances. Kakko may hit the 40-point mark for the third time in four years.
But if he shot more, a 50-point season could be reachable in the future. Ilya Mikheyev, RW, CHI @ SJ (1% rostered) - DraftKings $3,200 If looking for an inexpensive option to pair with Jake Guentzel, Kaapo Kakko and Mikheyev are solid choices. Mikheyev has notched three goals and three assists his last seven games, skating on the Blackhawks' second line.
