The kickoff of the 2026 Professional Pickleball Association's Asian tour in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam showed just how far some of the Asia-based pros have come.

Home-town hero Hoang Nam Ly topped several top PPA pros to take the gold. PPA Asia The Professional Pickleball Association’s Asian Tour had its first big event of the 2026 calendar year last weekend in the 2026 HB Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. It drew the largest-yet contingent of traveling US-based pros, including both of the “Goats” of the sport, to compete against Asia and Australia’s best.

Men’s Pro Singles Recap Just as on the PPA tour, where there are frequent upsets and constantly new faces that make deep runs, pro singles in Asia showed the same. The three most recent winners of international PPA events were Hong Kit Wong (winner of the pro singles at the March PPA Australia Sydney event), Hoang Nam Ly (winner of the final 2025 PPA Asia event in Hangzhou China), and Hien Truong (winner at the PPA Melbourne Pickleball cup last November). All three ended up going head to head against the best players the PPA had to offer in the early rounds, and fireworks ensued.

No. 1 seed Federico Staksrud faced off against Wong in the quarters and was stretched to the limit, winning 12-10 in the third to move on by the skin of his teeth. However, Staksrud fell in the semis to Hien Truong, who had cruised through Funemizo, Miyoshi, and Hargreaves to get there.
