The Georgia Bulldogs are looking to hire Jarvis Hayes, a two-time All-SEC guard at UGA and NBA lottery pick, as an assistant
The Georgia Bulldogs are interested in bringing a former UGA star onto their men's basketball staff . They're looking into hiring Jarvis Hayes as an assistant coach, according to On3. Hayes has been an assistant coach with the Georgia State Panthers since 2019.
Under his watch, the Panthers have made the NCAA tournament in 2022 due to winning the Sun Belt tournament. Ever since Rob Lanier left to coach the Rice Owls, Hayes' twin brother, Jonas, took over. Jonas Hayes was a Georgia assistant from 2013-18, but he's been lackluster as a head coach for Georgia State.
The Panthers went 48-78 under Jonas's watch before he was fired in 2026. Before their coaching days, Jonas and Jarvis played on Georgia's basketball team together. They both transferred from Western Carolina to Georgia in the 2001-02 season.
While Jonas averaged 8. 6 points per game in his three years at Georgia, Jarvis scored 18. 5 points per game in two seasons, including an SEC-leading 18.
