Reece James’ hamstring injury came at the worst possible time for Chelsea as the Blues battle for a Champions League place.
But from the player’s perspective, it at least came soon enough for him to have recovery time before the World Cup. A report from Jacob Steinberg in the Guardian today claims that James could be back at the start of May, giving him time to play a few games for Chelsea to get his match fitness back and prove himself ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s final selection. Tuchel taking James – but Chelsea can use him too The England coach is such a big fan that James doesn’t really have to worry about his place as long as he’s fit – but he will want to show he’s physically ready and to try to find some form before the tournament too.
From Chelsea’s point of view, while they will miss him for these next crucial games, they would at least have him back for a potential FA Cup final at the end of the season, should they navigate past Leeds in the next round. In other news… Estevao was called a “real plus” by Liam Rosenior, who had the Brazilian available on Saturday to start for the first time since mid-February. In the same interview, Estevao spoke about how the other Brazilians at Chelsea had helped him settle in as quickly as he has.
