Texas A&M should target former Aggie guard in the transfer portal
Texas A&M coach Bucky McMillan needs to land key players from the transfer portal, including standout guard Bryce Lindsay.
The 2026 college basketball transfer portal will open on Tuesday, April 7, and heading into his second season at the helm, Texas A&M coach Bucky McMillan will need to land five or more portal players to have a shot at making it back to the NCAA Tournament, especially adding more size to the front court, and a another scoring guard who can take over a game at any given moment. So far, senior guard Josh Holloway is the only player on the 2025-2026 roster to enter the portal, and while several names could be next, McMillan and his staff are focused on retaining a majority of the roster and are guaranteed to return forward Mackenzie Mgbako, who missed all but a handful of non-conference games before SEC play began. Another name to watch is senior guard Pop Isaacs, who could mull his options in the portal, but until then, one of the top scoring guards in the country just entered his name into the transfer portal, as former Texas A&M reserve Bryce Lindsay, who has since starred at James Madison before transferring to Villanova before the 2025 season.
Under former coach Buzz Williams, Lindsay barely saw the court, appearing in just eight games, but after transferring to James Madison, the former blue-chip prospect played in 31 games, averaging 13. 4 yards per game, while shooting nearly 46% from the field and 40% from three. After a hot start, Lindsay's one season with the Wildcats, including five 20-plus-point scoring performances, averaged 12.
3 points per game and helped lead Villanova to the NCAA Tournament. While Lindsay could have stayed put, Bucky McMillan should pursue the standout guard, who would immediately contend for a starting spot and fill a need from a scoring perspective. This week, On3 predicted that Texas A&M will have $8 to $10 million to work with in the transfer portal, which provides McMillan more than enough funds to land two or three impact veterans.
