Notre Dame left off 2027 5-star wide receivers trimmed down list
Notre Dame football can’t win every recruiting battled, and that proved true on Sunday as it missed the cut with a 5-star 2027 wide receiver.
Notre Dame football hasn’t suffered many recruiting misses over the last few seasons, but it wasn’t meant to be with one of the best 2027 wide receivers . Plenty has changed since the Irish offered Florida wide receiver Eric McFarland III in July of 2024, when he was still part of the 2028 class. The 247Sports 5-star then transferred to IMG Academy, a powerhouse football program who plays a national schedule and consistently has impact freshman at the next level.
It looked like Notre Dame was going to have a legit show with McFarland, but he has since reclassified to the 2027 cycle, and on Sunday released his top-11 school. The Irish were not included, but there was one that stood out from the rest, UNLV. You’d figure that Notre Dame has more allure than the Rebels, but that wasn’t the case for McFarland.
Currently, the Irish don’t have a receiver commit for this class, but has a good amount of young talent on its current roster. Notre Dame has the luxury of being picky this cycle, and then adding more proven talent through the transfer portal. Missing out on McFarland isn’t ideal, but it’s not all that bad for the Irish.
