PSV seal third straight Eredivisie title and set record
PSV seal third straight Eredivisie title and set record PSV had already done their part by edging past FC Utrecht 4–3 on Saturday, but still required Feyenoord to slip up if the title was to be secured from the comfort of their sofa. That is exactly what unfolded on Sunday afternoon. The side in second place were held to a goalless draw away at Volendam, leaving them unable to bridge the 17-point gap at the summit.
The result confirmed PSV as Eredivisie champions and sparked celebrations in Eindhoven, where the club sealed the title for a third consecutive season. Beyond completing the hat-trick of championships - and securing the club’s 27th league title overall - PSV also achieved something even more remarkable. They wrapped up the crown earlier than any side in Eredivisie history, an especially striking feat given they had lost each of their previous two matches.
Peter Bosz’s side, featuring the likes of Joey Veerman, Guus Til, Yarek Gasiorowski and Jerdy Schouten alongside a number of emerging talents, will surely be remembered as one of the most impressive teams in the club’s history. PSV had previously completed league three-peats in both 1988 and 2007 - and on each occasion went on to make it four titles in succession the following season. On this evidence, few in Eindhoven will be ruling out another sustained spell of dominance just yet.
