Khamzat Chimaev defends his middleweight title against Sean Strickland in the main event

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 16: Khamzat Chimaev of Russia reacts after a unanimous-decision victory against Dricus Du Plessis of South Africa in the UFC middleweight championship fight during the UFC 319 event at the United Center on August 16, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. The flyweight title fight between champion Joshua Van and challenger Tatsuro Taira was pulled from the April 11 card in Miami and now takes place on May 9 in New Jersey instead.

The new UFC 328 main card was revealed on Saturday after news broke that Van vs. Taira was being rescheduled. Van is looking to defend his title for the first time after he won the belt this past December with a win over Alexandre Pantoja.

Meanwhile, Taira is getting his first crack at winning a UFC title following a two-fight win streak including a stoppage victory over former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno. The flyweight title fight joins the main event where Khamzat Chimaev defends his middleweight championship for the first time against Sean Strickland. Chimaev dominated Dricus du Plessis to win the belt and now heโ€™ll clash with a former training partner in Strickland, who finished Anthony โ€œFluffyโ€ Hernandez in his last outing.

Heavyweights Alexander Volkov and Waldo Cortes-Acosta are also set to clash at UFC 328. Cortes-Acosta has been one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster but heโ€™ll face his stiffest test to date going up against Volkov, who is 5-1 in his past six fights with his only loss coming in a controversial decision to Ciryl Gane. Sean Brady returns to action for a matchup against Joaquin Buckley that is also part of the UFC 328 main card.
