Alexander Wohl-Imagn Images The NHL slate on Saturday fell perfectly for the Philadelphia Flyers. Now, it’s up to them to take advantage of the opportunity. 15 games were played on Saturday, and four of them had a direct impact on the Flyers’ playoff hopes and dreams.
They needed regulation losses from the Red Wings, Senators, Jets, and Islanders for the ideal day. That’s just what the Flyers got. Every team in the 88-point tie all lost on Saturday, as well as the Islanders, who sit just one point ahead.
Now, that puts Philly in a position to grab a playoff spot for the first time since mid-January. After the back-to-back losses to the Capitals and Red Wings, the Flyers’ playoff hopes looked like they slipped out of their hands. But, they got some help from the other teams in the standings losing, keeping them in the fight.
Now, with a win or overtime loss on Sunday, the Flyers could move into the No. 3 seed in the Metropolitan Division. Sunday will also have big implications on the Wild Card race.
