It both announced the Italian to the world and kept United on track for a record-equalling 18th title. Sir Alex Ferguson's men headed into their Old Trafford clash with Aston Villa off the back of two heavy losses to Liverpool and Fulham, and had ceded top spot to their greatest rivals the day prior.
Nothing but a win would do but at one point Villa led 2-1 and it was still level deep into "Fergie Time". That's when the 17-year-old debuting Macheda stepped up to make himself an instant United hero and spark wild celebrations. The Italian followed up with another crucial winner the following week at Sunderland but would score just three more goals for United before finally departing in 2014.
