Habib Beye confident of his future at Marseille Habib Beye has hit back at critics and insists that he is not worried about his job security at Olympique de Marseille. The former Stade Rennais and Red Star manager arrived in mid-February, replacing Roberto De Zerbi, who reached a mutual agreement to leave OM following their 5-0 humbling against fierce rivals Paris Saint-Germain. Beye was fresh out of a job, having been sacked by Rennes earlier that same month.

His time with the Breton club did little to enhance his reputation. It hasn’t been flamboyant at Marseille either. Having failed to win any of his first two games in charge, he then went on a three-game winning run, although all of those wins came by a slender one-goal margin and two came against AJ Auxerre and Toulouse FC.

A 2-1 defeat to Lille OSC just before the international break drew more criticism, as did the revelation that Beye is the third best-paid manager in Ligue 1 (€230,000 per month), behind only Olympique Lyonnais’ Paulo Fonseca and PSG’s Luis Enrique. He was made to justify his contract ahead of Sunday’s game against AS Monaco. “What I have today, I owe to my work, and I will continue to earn it on the pitch,” said Beye in a press conference attended by Get French Football News, before hitting back at his critics further.

“I came here with the objective of securing Champions League qualification. When I arrived, the team were fourth in Ligue 1, now we are third. ” He added, “I have signed for one-and-a-half years, and I don’t want to dwell on this topic […] I am very happy to be here until 2027.
