Garrett Mitchell's big game leads Milwaukee Brewers to win opener, but Kansas City Royals take the nightcap.

Garrett Mitchell was the star of the game for the Milwaukee Brewers as they secured a 5-2 win over the Kansas City Royals in Game One of a Saturday doubleheader at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The Royals, though, found their hitting stroke and took the nightcap 8-2. Back to Mitchell's big game.

Mitchell was the spark that the Brewers needed in the opener, piling up five RBIs on a two-run double in the first inning and a three-run home run in the third inning. His one-man hitting show ended up being just enough for the Brewers to pull out that victory. Brewers starting pitcher Chad Patrick was incredible, too, going five scoreless innings against a pretty stout Royals lineup.

Patrick's ERA is now at an incredible 0. 96 early in the 2026 MLB regular season. Mitchell had to deal with a lot of injuries last season.

So, getting a chance to get back on the field and contribute to Milwaukee's goals this season means a lot to him. Brewers manager Pat Murphy gave a lot of credit to the team's front office when it came to Mitchell. Garrett Mitchell is just dominating today โ†’ https://t.
