TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Bring out the brooms for the Hornets. Emporia State baseball (27-8, 14-7 MIAA) completed the series sweep over Newman (4-31, 2-23 MIAA), beating the Jets 23-5 in seven innings. The Hornets scored its 23 runs on 16 hits while committing two errors.
“Came out and took care of business and played well, and the guys played a good three games,” Emporia State head coach John Martin said. “We have to keep working. This time of year, we’re trying to play our best baseball and get hot for the end of the year.
” Frankie Santiago, Noah Steele, Nathon Cruz and Tyler Coffin each had two RBIs in the win. Coffin had four hits on the day, while Evan Abbot was 3-4 from the plate and scored five runs. Dominic Felix, Brady Unrein, Cooper Schwindt and Austin Lynn each recorded an RBI in the win.
