A promising start to Friday's game was dampened

UPDATE, APRIL 4: Juan Soto has a minor calf strain, he told reporters in San Francisco Saturday night. He is not headed to the injured list yet, and is considered day-to-day. He was not in the lineup for the Mets’ third game against the Giants.

----- A promising start to the Mets’ Friday night game against the San Francisco Giants was soured with injury news. After the Mets’ offense finally came to life, lighting up Giants’ starter Tyler Mahle for four hits and two runs in the first inning in San Francisco, superstar Juan Soto exited the game. Soto singled in that first inning and went from first-to-third on a base hit from Bo Bichette.

Replays showed Soto approaching third base gingerly. The officially exited with right calf tightness, according to the Mets. He was replaced by Tyrone Taylor.

The severity of the injury — or whether Soto aggravated it for the first time Friday — is not yet known. The Mets play Saturday and Sunday in San Francisco before an off day Monday and returning home to New York. That wasn’t the only injury news the Mets dealt with Friday.
