Are the Boston Celtics genuine championship contenders?

Can the Boston Celtics matchup with the best teams out West?

The Boston Celtics have proven themselves to be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this season, winning 33 of their 48 games against conference opponents. That success rate has seen Joe Mazzulla's team establish itself as the second-seed in the East, despite not having Jayson Tatum for the majority of the season. Now, as we gear up for another postseason, Boston is expected to make a push for the Eastern Conference Finals, if not the NBA Finals.

Of course, there will be some difficult challenges along the way, especially with the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers and potentially, the Detroit Pistons. Even if the Celtics do make it out of the East, they will face a potentially daunting matchup with a Western Conference foe. With that in mind, Boston's standing as a championship contender was recently debated on an episode of WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show," specifically through the lens of how the team matches up with opponents out West.
