NCAA boosts prize payouts for men's and women's Final Four
The men's and women's national championship has a lot of money on the line thanks to an updated prize system.
The NCAA has had a "unit" based rewards system for conferences and teams that make it to March Madness for years, but they are upping the ante for the 2026 men's and women's Final Four. Teams can earn $2 million for reaching their respective championship games and an additional $2 million for winning the national title. Ultimately, the winnings are disbursed to the relevant winning teams' conference, which are then re-allocated to all programs within the conference.
NCAA payouts are made over the course of the subsequent six seasons. The bonus structure previously ended at the Final Four, meaning no further winning-based incentives were available under the old program starting with that round. The NCAA is expanding its โunitsโ system and for the first time, games at the Final Four actually pay out.
The menโs tournament has a prize pool of more than $220 million, while the womenโs tournament will offer about $20 million.
