Michael Carrick: Giggs says Man United face an obvious choice over their next manager Ryan Giggs says it is obvious who Manchester United should appoint as their next head coach. At the start of the year, INEOS finally found the courage to pull the plug on Ruben Amorim’s faltering project. The Portuguese tactician was dismissed , Darren Fletcher stepped in as interim, and eventually Michael Carrick was handed the reins as caretaker until the end of the season.
There were doubts about Carrick, but what a fantastic job he has done since taking charge. The midfielder-turned-head coach has exceeded expectations, collecting 23 points from a possible 30 in the Premier League. He has steadied the ship, lifted morale, and transformed a fragile squad into firm favourites for Champions League qualification.
In 10 matches under Carrick, United have recorded seven wins, two draws, and just one defeat. They will be aiming to make it eight victories from 11 when they return from their Ireland training camp. Carrick, or not Carrick?
Despite United’s resurgence, INEOS have yet to signal that Carrick is their choice for the permanent role. But calls are growing louder for the club to be bold and appoint him. Harry Maguire recently backed the 44‑year‑old for the job, and now Ryan Giggs has added his voice, urging his former club to act decisively.
