UH water polo team clinches Big West title

Gabrielle Doyle, Asimina Klapsianou and Roni Peiravani each had hat tricks as the No. 6 Hawaii women’s water polo team routed Cal State Fullerton 20-2 and clinched the Big West regular-season title Friday at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Center. Ariadna Temprano Xambo had four assists for the Rainbow Wahine, who won their third consecutive conference regular-season title and eighth overall.

The Rainbow Wahine (13-5, 6-0 Big West) have won 26 consecutive Big West games. It was the final home game for seven UH seniors. Daisy Logtens made five saves in the first half, Nalani Yim had four in the third quarter and Evelyn Miller recorded one in the fourth for the Rainbow Wahine.

Lotte Boxsem and Sofia Moschetti scored for the Titans (17-14, 1-6). Hawaii will next play in the Big West Tournament to be held April 10-12 in Long Beach, Calif. UH softball blanked at UC Santa Barbara The Hawaii softball team came up empty against UC Santa Barbara’s Sophia Clark in a 4-0 loss Friday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Clark pitched a five-hitter with three walks and three strikeouts for the Gauchos (22-16, 12-1 Big West). Taryn Irimata pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits with no walks and three strikeouts for the Rainbow Wahine (16-16, 8-5).
