One of the interesting parts of Chelsea’s team news for today’s game was the presence of Cole Palmer as captain.

This is the first time that the attacker has been given this reasonability, and before kick off manager Liam Rosenior was asked about his logic for making that decision. Rosenior explains his Palmer captain decision “He leads in the way he plays. I think Cole is somebody who, right now, deserves the honour of captaining this huge club, and hopefully he will perform in the manner I expect him to, to show he’s the right captain,” the manager explained.

It makes sense on a number of levels. The usual captains are out, and Enzo Fernandez has let himself down with his comments during the international break. This project needs its big players committed, and this show of faith in Palmer will hopefully help in that regard.

Let’s also hope it helps him find some form on the pitch. In other news… The other major team news for us was the absence of Josh Acheampong, who simply can’t get a game. We’re very worried about his future.

Also before kick off, Liam Rosenior was criticised for not taking full responsibility for the decision to drop Enzo Fernandez for two games after the midfielder spoke out during the international break.
